The IFAB may change the rules regarding coach interference in the game. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is set to change its rule on coaching interference after Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta avoided being sent off in a 0-1 Champions League draw with Inter Milan.
Nerazzurri defender Matteo Darmian tried to play the ball as it went over the touchline, but Arteta picked it up before it crossed the line. Referee Istvan Kovacs showed the Spaniard a yellow card, although, according to the regulations, he should have received a red one.
Earlier this year, West Brom manager Carlos Corberan and Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnis were sent off for similar actions.
According to ESPN, following discussions at the IFAB Annual Work Meeting on Monday, a recommendation was made to change the rule. Although Kovac`s decision at the San Siro was wrong, the IFAB believes that if the coach`s only intention is to help the game predicted by 1x2 football betting tips restart quickly (as was the case with Arteta, Corberan and MacInnis - Spors), then a caution would be a more appropriate punishment.
The rule change, which could come into force next summer, must be approved at the IFAB general meeting on March 1.
Another rule that is planned to change concerns the held ball. Currently, if a team is in possession of the ball and the pass hits the referee, then the team receives a held ball regardless of the situation. It is suggested that if a pass is inaccurate and clearly going to the other team, the ball is awarded to the opponents.
