Chelsea made an attempt to sign winger Cody Gakpo at the end of December.


According to the Liverpool Echo with reference to Eindhovens Dagblad, the Londoners, having learned of Liverpool`s serious interest in acquiring the PSV football player, tried to buy him themselves, but were refused.


The Blues were willing to pay ?35. 4m for Gakpo including additional fees, while Liverpool offered ?37m and another ?8m in bonuses.
